It combines the key content of a 4-hour first-aid course with practical exercises relating to emergency situations that may arise in a taxi. You will learn to quickly recognise and manage heart attacks, strokes, choking and other common emergencies in confined spaces. The training will boost your confidence in customer service, strengthen your safety skills on the road and provide you with an official certificate of your competence.

Taxi drivers are often the first on the scene when a customer or member of the public finds themselves in an emergency situation. Working in confined spaces, amidst traffic and with a variety of customers requires skills that are not always covered in a standard first-aid course. This training equips you to act quickly, safely and correctly.

Objectives

After completing the training, you will be able to recognise emergency situations in and around a car, provide first aid to different groups of people (children, the elderly, people with reduced mobility), act safely in traffic and in confined spaces, and call for help correctly and quickly. You will also learn CPR and how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).

• Safety in and around the car: stopping the car, assisting a customer on the seat or floor, emergency transfers
• Common medical emergencies in taxis: heart attacks, strokes (FAST), choking, hypoglycaemia
• First aid for specific groups: choking in children, resuscitation of the elderly, assisting people with reduced mobility
• Making an emergency call: how to give your location and what information the emergency services need
• Resuscitation and AED: chest compressions and rescue breathing, use of a defibrillator, and practical exercises using simulators
• Bleeding and shock: stopping the bleeding, first aid for patients with pressure injuries and shock
