The Water Safety Certificate is a qualification that demonstrates an employee’s mastery of key aspects of water hygiene. The system is similar in principle to the hygiene passport and is based on an amendment to the Health Protection Act (285/2006). The legislation requires that individuals carrying out tasks that affect water quality are able to formally demonstrate their competence.

It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure that employees have the necessary knowledge and skills to work safely. This includes an understanding of water microbiology, water chemistry, water treatment and purification methods, and water quality monitoring. In addition, the training covers key legislation and the importance of personal hygiene.
