Railway Safety Training (Turva) is designed for organisations that require their staff to be qualified to work safely on railway premises. The training provides participants with basic knowledge of the specific characteristics of the railway system, potential hazards and safe working practices. Successful completion of the training leads to a Railway Safety Qualification issued by the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency, which is valid for five years.
Safety certification is mandatory for everyone working on railway projects for the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency.
Who is this course suitable for?
Customised training is suitable for companies, contractors, local authorities and other organisations whose staff work on railway premises or in roles related to railway operations.
The course is suitable for anyone aged 16–68. No prior training or work experience is required. For those under the age of 18, working on railway premises requires a notification of hazardous work to be submitted to the Regional State Administrative Agency.
The aim of the training
The aim of the training is to ensure that participants know how to work safely in a railway environment and can identify the key risks associated with the work. Upon completion of the training, participants will be able to work in the railway area in accordance with the relevant requirements.
Course content
The training covers the following topics, among others:
- rail network management and the authorities
- basic concepts, hazards and specific characteristics of the railway system
- determining the location within the railway area
- work on railway premises and platform work
- the use of machinery in a railway environment
- induction training on the electric railway
- action in the event of hazards and accidents
- written exam or skills assessment in the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency’s Eerok system
- qualification and approval
Implementation
The bespoke training will be held at a time agreed with your organisation. The training can be delivered as separately agreed, for example:
- as a local training course
- online (webinar)
Participants register on the learning platform, where they can complete the course and, if necessary, sign up for the training day.
Qualifications
Successful completion of the training leads to the award of a Railway Safety Qualification issued by the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency, which is valid for five years. The qualification must be renewed by attending the training every five years.
It is also possible to obtain a Traficom professional qualification certificate through this training.
