The aim of railway safety training
Railway safety training (Turva) ensures safe working practices on railway premises. The training provides basic knowledge of the specific characteristics and risks of the railway system. The training leads to a Trafi certificate!
Safety certification is mandatory for everyone working on railway projects for the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency.
Content of railway safety training
The training covers the following topics, amongst others:
- Rail network management and regulatory authorities
- Basic concepts, risk factors and specific characteristics of the railway system
- Determining location within the railway area
- Working on railway premises and platform work
- The use of machinery in a railway environment
- Introduction to the electric railway
- Action in the event of hazards and accidents
- Written exam or skills assessment in the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency’s Eerokki system
Qualifications and accreditation
Successful completion of the training leads to a Railway Safety Qualification issued by the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency, which is valid for five years. The qualification must be renewed by attending the training every five years. If desired, it is also possible to obtain a Traficom professional qualification certificate from the training.
Target group
The training is suitable for anyone aged 16–68, and no prior education or work experience is required to take part. For those under the age of 18, working on railway premises requires a notification of hazardous work to be submitted to the Regional State Administrative Agency.
